Konica Minolta’s magicolor 5550 wins the BLI “Pick of the Year” award

Konica Minolta’s magicolor 5550 wins the BLI “Pick of the Year” award

Langenhagen, 20 August 2007

Konica Minolta’s magicolor 5550 received the Spring 2007 “Pick of the Year” award from the independent Buyers’ Lab (BLI), winning the accolade “Outstanding Mid-Size Workgroup Color Printer”. The BLI commended the positive overall performance of the magicolor 5550, assessed during two months of laboratory testing. The independent authority awarded top marks for the diverse feature set, performance and high efficiency of the machine.

The impressive magicolor 5550 from Konica Minolta is a high-performance colour laser printer for office use. It is a valuable piece of equipment, capable of producing 31 monochrome pages and 27 colour pages every minute. The BLI rated the monochrome printouts “very good” and the colour printouts “good”. Thanks to the integrated Emperon Controller, the device is suitable for use in almost every environment. It is compatible with all major printing languages, operating systems and applications.

“One feature by which we were particularly impressed is the magicolor 5550’s USB port on the control panel, where you can connect a PictBridge-compatible digital camera or a USB thumb drive”, says Tony Maceri, a Senior Test Technician at BLI. “You can use this to print pictures quickly and conveniently.” The testers assessed the image quality of colour pictures as “good” and the productivity in both modes as “very good”.

The Spring 2007 BLI “Pick of the Year” award highlighted the excellent ease of use. The testers gave this assessment because of the well-designed control panel and the simple installation and setup procedure. The magicolor 5550 is supplied with the consumables already installed, which, in conjunction with the automatic software installation, reduces setup time considerably. The printer is therefore ready for use within the shortest possible time.

The magicolor 5550's extremely economical use of consumables makes it even more attractive – and cost-effective. In toner saving mode, the amount of toner used can be reduced by up to half without notably comprising print quality. Simitri HD polymer toner has a low melting point, which also saves energy and helps to prevent paper jams.

On top of the excellent individual features, the testers were also impressed by the “stamina” of the printer. The magicolor 5550 printed 60,000 pages as part of the durability test with no malfunctions or misfeeds whatsoever.

“We are proud that the BLI has named our magicolor 5550 “Pick of the Year”. This just goes to show that we are on the right track with our initiative to offer innovative, customer-driven and user-friendly machines, and can please even the most demanding of critics,“ says Carlos Baart, Manager of Corporate Communications at Konica Minolta.

Terms and product names may be trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective holders and are hereby acknowledged.

Product images are available at www.konicaminolta-images.com

Contact:

Carlos Baart
Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe
Phone: +49 (0)511 7404-324
Carlos.Baart@konicaminolta.eu

Open Bee software creates a buzz for Konica Minolta customers

Open Bee software creates a buzz for Konica Minolta customers

Langenhagen, July 09 2007

Konica Minolta announces a newcomer to its application portfolio with the launch of Open Bee Scan Viewer, a capturing and archiving software package, aimed at enhancing entry-level archiving for small and medium businesses. Designed exclusively for Konica Minolta, the new software is fast, convenient and overcomes digital document management issues such as capturing, indexing, archiving and retrieval of information, typically faced by SMEs. This is the first software of its kind designed with this market in mind.

The Open Bee Scan Viewer software is an easy to use and affordable solution for businesses in need of electronic archiving and document storage with a logical central filing system. Designed for document-intensive environments such as manufacturing, logistics, legal, healthcare and government sectors, the Open Bee Scan Viewer helps to improve overall productivity and increase employee efficiency.

The software works very simply by indexing documents within customisable templates after the hard copies have been scanned on a bizhub multi-functional peripheral (MFP). The documents are then automatically archived and structured by keywords or other recognisable variables such as a customer code, name or other ID tags using the embedded Optical Character Recognition (OCR) engine within its interface.

When the documents need to be retrieved the Open Bee application provides multi-user, web-based document searches (by keywords or full-text), allowing unlimited users to access the information required.

In instances where restricted access is required, the administrator can limit users’ rights to certain literature therefore heightening security within the system.

Olaf Lorenz, General Manager, Product Marketing Division for Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe says, “It is great to be able to offer our small and medium sized customers a fast and cost effective solution for use with all of their printing and scanning devices. The key to this software is to enable an easy method of search and retrieval for multiple users, making day to day business easier.”

The Open Bee Scan Viewer supports PDF and TIFF formats for all types of documents and is compatible with all of Konica Minolta’s bizhub MFP range and other scanning devices that create PDF files.

About Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe

Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH is a leading provider of image information products with subsidiaries and distributors in more than 50 countries in the EMEA region.
Konica Minolta announces support for Microsoft Windows Vista XPS printing and WSD protocols

Langenhagen (Germany), June 8th, 2007

Konica Minolta Business Solutions announces that it will be one of the first digital imaging manufacturers to support the XML Paper Specification (XPS) file format and Web Services on Devices (WSD) on the bizhub C550 and C451 and all next-generation bizhub multifunctional peripherals (MFPs).

XPS is a new Microsoft Windows Vista file format that allows the user to more accurately and more productively reproduce the layout and colour of the original document on the printed image. Future bizhubs will contain a native XPS interpreter, designed and developed by Konica Minolta, as an extension of the Konica Minolta Emperon print technology, to take full advantage of this new document format.

WSD, Microsoft's new Windows Vista protocol, makes it possible to deliver improved network connectivity, allowing the user to search and install MFPs and print devices more easily. In addition, the technology provides an optimised user experience for sending and receiving documents on the network.

Both the XPS file format and WSD protocols are part of the Windows Vista operating system. The new XPS file format is supported in the Microsoft Office 2007 suite. For the past two years, Konica Minolta has been working closely with Microsoft to ensure that its award-winning bizhub MFPs support both the XPS file format and WSD protocols so that customers will enjoy lower cost and higher quality MFP deployments.

"Our close integration with Windows Vista is key to our commitment to providing the optimal user experience that comes from using a Microsoft certified integration strategy." says Olaf Lorenz, General Manager, Product Marketing Division for Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe. “Vista users can now replicate their incredible on-screen experience in hard-copy.”

"Windows Vista creates a print platform for next generation workflows and XPS is one example of how we are providing a more intuitive and productive experience for customers," said Madelyn Bryant McIntire, Group Program Manager in the Windows Experience group at Microsoft Corp. "Konica Minolta’s new bizhub products will enable our mutual customers to better print, share and archive documents - all in a more secure environment."

In addition, Konica Minolta has confirmed its support for the new Windows Vista operating system by providing compatible printer drivers for a broad range of existing colour and monochrome bizhub MFPs.

The new printer drivers are now built into the Windows Vista operating system. The drivers support the next generation of bizhub products, as well as legacy Konica Minolta MFPs. Additionally, drivers for newer products and updates for the current product line will be provided in stages.

Support for XPS and WSD is already available on the bizhub C550 and bizhub C451 and on all next generation bizhub MFP’s.

About Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe

Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH is a leading provider of image information products with subsidiaries and distributors in more than 50 countries in the EMEA region.
Konica Minolta streamlines production workflows with new Printgroove

Konica Minolta streamlines production workflows with new Printgroove

Langenhagen, June 2007

Konica Minolta has announced the launch of its new, award-winning print workflow solution, Printgroove. The software ensures a simple, streamlined process from job submission to billing, which results in a seamless link between Konica Minolta's production printing systems, the bizhub PRO series.

Already recognised with a BERTL's BEST Award for Innovation, Printgroove consists of three modules that integrate and automate production printing environments. These modules that include POD Queue, POD Serve and POD Guide are designed to cater for the special needs of complex production printing environments such as central reprographic departments (CRDs) or print for pay shops.

The first module available now, POD Queue, eases print order and device management for any kind of job. It recommends the most suitable output device, or can be set to forward automatically if a printer is busy or disabled depending on the colour split, paper type or finishing requirements needed. Operators can also distribute jobs between several devices with different finishing options, or even run cluster print jobs to maximise throughput speed and cost-efficiency without the need for an on-site IT manager.

POD Serve is the second module included in the Printgroove software. It is a web service that acts as an online store front. It allows users to submit jobs, create and customise job ticket settings and provide real-time tracking for proofing and acceptances via the Internet, 24 hours a day - 7 days a week from any location. In addition, it can be set to access past archived job tickets to facilitate smoother re-ordering and re-print jobs.

The final module in the series is the POD Guide, which monitors operational status and job management through to printing and delivery. Resource oversight and operating status reports help to uncover and track problems such as bottlenecks, ensuring maximum efficiency for businesses. By also making use of dynamic databases, administrators can access archived job tickets to eliminate any redundancies as well as manage invoice creation and schedule management. POD Serve and Guide will be available later this year.

To complete the total solution for production print efficiency, a fourth module will be introduced to the Printgroove software next year. The final module, known as POD Ready, will automate the make ready process with an easy-to-use interface for the intuitive control of advanced functions. This means that any operator can take on the production tasks that, in the past, required special training from skilled technicians, saving businesses more time and money. This module is expected to follow at the beginning of 2008.

About Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe
Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH is a leading provider of image information products with subsidiaries and distributors in more than 50 countries in the EMEA region.
Award for bizhub C451

Konica Minolta launches its award-winning bizhub C451

Langenhagen, June 2007

Konica Minolta's latest addition to the bizhub range has already been accredited with a prestigious industry award. The compact, high-speed bizhub C451 was part of the bizhub range recently crowned BERTL's BEST for Departmental Colour 2007. The bizhub C451 is the latest addition to include the new InfoLine, combining cutting-edge design and innovative technology.

The bizhub C451 is the most compact in its class and designed to be the hub of the office with its 360° design.

Konica Minolta introduces the IC-304 Print Controller for enhanced colour and productivity

Langenhagen, May 2007

Konica Minolta announces the availability of the new IC-304 Print Controller which utilises the latest technology to further enhance the functionality of the bizhub PRO C6500e/eP and bizhub PRO C6500. This exclusive print controller offers Konica Minolta customers advanced features for productivity, high-quality image control, VDP support, and ease-of-use.

Based on the latest Creo Colour Server technology, the IC-304 Print Controller has been designed to streamline print production workflow and accelerate processes. A number of key features have been incorporated to further improve production including: ready-to-print files that can be duplicated a number of times once ripped, preset printer settings and the ability to start print runs during ripping.

Olaf Lorenz of Konica Minolta says, "We are delighted to introduce the IC-304 Print Controller which enables truly personalised printing once again raising the bar on professional colour, speed and productivity. The features of the bizhub PRO C6500 range can be enhanced through this device offering an improved solution at a minimal cost."

The IC-304 Print Controller delivers precise colour, which when combined with Konica Minolta's Simitri High Definition toner provides customers with a comprehensive colour range and outstanding professional image quality. Superior colour settings and advanced management tools such as a Spot Colour Editor are user friendly and highly effective in delivering consistent, accurate colour.
Customers can make necessary corrections in calibration, gradation and brightness without having to re-RIP an entire file.

By processing pre-separated files the IC-304 Print Controller is capable of managing hybrid workflows and is seamlessly integrating with Kodak Brisque or Prinergy for example. It bridges the gap between offset and digital printing operations, resulting in faster turnaround times and reduced labour costs. Urgent jobs, short runs and proofs, for example, can be easily re-routed from an offset to a digital workflow. Customers can incorporate digital printing into their existing JDF-based or web-to-print - based workflow configuration.

The IC-304 Print Controller has extensive built-in VDP capabilities, processing complex variable data documents at the same speed as a static print job. This technology allows customers to preview documents and correct colour as they go. The IC-304 supports all finishing options for the bizhub PRO C6500 range and has a range of popular editing tools and industry print formats enabling users to effortlessly create a totally diverse range of professional print materials

Optimised hardware and software for the new IC-304 controller includes: Intel Core2 Duo processor; Adobe CPSI 3017 software, Acrobat 7, and PDF 1.6; and Windows XP Professional (SP2) OS.

About Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe
Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe GmbH is a leading provider of image information products with subsidiaries and distributors in more than 50 countries in the EMEA region.
Konica Minolta's bizhub PRO range is awarded BERTL's Best 2007

Langenhagen, May 2007

Konica Minolta is the proud recipient of a BERTL's Best 2007 award in the category 'Best Light Production Monochrome MFP Range with an Outstanding Print Feature Set.' While colour is making the headlines, monochrome still makes up the majority of the world's document production.

The light production monochrome range, encompassing the bizhub PRO 920 and 1050e, was highly praised by BERTL for its usability and image quality. Judges commented on the well laid out user interface from both the desktop and device, good image quality across the board with good fine line detailing, excellent halftone and greyscale reproduction and crisp text down to small point sizes.

It is however, the valuable time saving direct print function and the impressive scope of online document production capabilities, which really wowed both judges and end-users alike.

Olaf Lorenz, General Manager, Product Marketing Division for Konica Minolta Business Solutions Europe says: "We are delighted to win this BERTL award, particularly as it is entirely focused on the benefits that our products provide for production printing environments.
